All citation-based metrics utilized to determine the ranking positions were collected on January 12, 2026. A scientist’s ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a specialized metric that accounts solely for papers and citation impact within the specific discipline of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. This approach ensures discipline-focused accuracy in assessing research influence.
Scope of Research and Qualifying Criteria
The ranking evaluation involved a rigorous examination of 279,971 scientist profiles drawn from various bibliometric sources across all scientific disciplines. Specifically, 7 scientists from Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering within Iraq were closely evaluated for inclusion.
To qualify for the ranking, a scientist must possess a D-index of at least 30, with a majority of their tier publications concentrated in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. Additionally, awards and notable achievements in this field were considered to reinforce the relevance and impact of each candidate’s work.
The D-index threshold is dynamically set, increasing in increments of 10 relative to the estimated total number of scholars working within each discipline. This calibrated threshold guarantees that the top 1% of leading scholars are incorporated into the ranking list. Furthermore, to ensure disciplinary consistency, candidates must exhibit a proximity of 30% or less between their general H-index and their D-index.
Verification Procedures and Reliability
Research.com recognizes that raw bibliometric data alone cannot serve as a definitive measure of scholarly output. Accordingly, all scientist profiles included in the ranking were manually verified and cross-referenced against publications listed in a wide array of trustworthy sources.
While the number of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings is not a direct factor influencing a researcher’s position in the ranking, it is regarded as a valuable secondary indicator reflecting the depth of a scientist’s contribution to their respective field.
The ranking positions hinge on each researcher’s D-index as derived from OpenAlex and CrossRef — two of the most prominent and widely trusted bibliometric databases available to the global research community.
