The threshold for the D-index is calibrated as an increment of 10 depending on the estimated total number of scholars for each discipline, ensuring that the ranking consistently includes the top 1% of leading researchers within Materials Science. Furthermore, to maintain disciplinary relevance, a maximum proximity of 30% between a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index was required, promoting coherence between overall impact and subject-specific influence.
