Overview of the National University of Colombia

The National University of Colombia (Universidad Nacional de Colombia), established in 1867, is the country’s leading public, research-intensive institution of higher education. With its main campus located in Bogotá, and additional campuses in Medellín, Manizales, Palmira, Arauca, Leticia, Tumaco, and La Paz, it forms one of the most comprehensive and influential university systems in Colombia. As of 2023, the university serves over 55,000 undergraduate and 8,000 postgraduate students across 20 faculties, making it the largest and most diverse university in the nation. Its longstanding heritage and scale position it as a central figure in Colombian and Latin American academia.
