Overview

Iona College is a private Catholic college in New Rochelle, New York. Founded in 1940 by the Congregation of Christian Brothers, its strategic location provides students with numerous options for internship and career growth opportunities, including access to some of the world’s best cultural attractions.

The college is known for its focus on preparing students for their chosen careers. It offers over a hundred graduate and undergraduate programs in the LaPenta School of Business and the School of Arts and Science. Top students can avail of an honors program, which includes off-campus opportunities, advising, mentoring, seminars, and special courses. It also offers graduate courses in its Manhattan campus and study abroad programs.

Iona is acknowledged as a leading institution for developing and helping students gain financial security and upward economic mobility. Its Hynes Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation is Iona’s interdisciplinary center for creative problem-solving. Moreover, it offers programming and resources to all students.

Iona is divided into two main academic units, namely a business school and a school of arts and science. Its School of Business offers degree programs that lead to Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing, Management, International Business, Information Systems, Finance, Accounting, and Business Administration. The school also offers a fast-track 10-month MBA program, which is designed for professionals seeking to gain competitive edge in their fields. Meanwhile their School of Arts and Science is known for its Communication and Journalism programs as well as Psychology courses.

The college’s study abroad program provides its students with the opportunity to cover a dozen diverse cultural immersion programs. These include universities in Paris, Rome, Dublin, Oxford, Dingle, Turin, Barcelona, Greece, Netherlands, London, and Oświęcim.

At Iona, students can choose from over 80 active Greek fraternities and sororities, media organizations, and clubs. Greek Life includes one local fraternity, two national fraternities, one international fraternity, two national sororities, and four local sororities. The Iona College Gaels also participate in NCAA Division I sports programs and belongs to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.

The college provides several residence halls within the campus and in surrounding communities. First year students are exclusively housed at Loftus Hall, while second year and upperclassmen can be billeted at Rice Hall, East Hall, North Avenue Residence Hall, and Conese and Hales Halls.

Notable alumni include NASDAQ Chairman Robert Greifeld, actor Bud Cort, former U.S. Congressman (New York) Vito Fossella, singer/songwriter Don McLean, former New York Stock Exchange President Catherine R. Kinney, former mayor of New Rochelle, New York Timothy C. Idoni, Broadway and Hollywood actress Terry Finn, and NBA Hall of Famer Richie Guerin.
