Data Sources and Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Medicine Scientists in Thailand Ranking is grounded primarily in comprehensive bibliometric data sourced from OpenAlex and CrossRef, among several other reputable data repositories. The citation-based metrics that form the foundation of this ranking were meticulously collected on January 12, 2026. The core metric utilized to establish each scientist’s position within the ranking is the D-index (Discipline H-index). This index considers only the publications and citation metrics relevant to the specific discipline under examination—in this case, Medicine—thereby providing a refined and discipline-centric assessment of scientific impact.
Scope of Research and Selection Criteria
In order to create an accurate and meaningful ranking, a total of 188,153 scientist profiles from a wide array of bibliometric databases across all disciplines were reviewed. Of these, 8 scientists specifically focused on Medicine were identified for Thailand. To qualify for inclusion in the Medicine ranking, a scientist’s D-index had to meet a minimum threshold of 70, and a majority of their tier publications needed to be in the medical field. Additionally, scientists’ awards and notable achievements in Medicine were factored into the qualification process.
The D-index threshold is dynamically set in increments of 10, tailored to reflect the estimated number of active scholars in each discipline. This approach ensures that the ranking robustly represents the top 1% of leading researchers. Moreover, there is a strict criterion that the difference between a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index must not exceed 30%, thus verifying that their impact is strongly rooted within the discipline of Medicine.
Verification and Assessment Procedures
Recognizing the limitations of raw bibliometric data as an absolute performance measure, the Research.com team implemented a rigorous manual verification process. Each scientist’s profile was carefully cross-correlated against publications found in a broad spectrum of trusted academic journals, conference proceedings, and related authoritative sources. While the number of papers published in highly regarded journals and conferences does not directly influence a researcher’s position in the ranking, it serves as a valuable secondary signal that corroborates their contribution to the discipline.
The D-index values used to establish the ranking were derived specifically from data aggregated by OpenAlex and CrossRef—the two most recognized and widely utilized bibliometric databases accessible to the academic community. This ensures a high degree of reliability and transparency in the ranking process.
