Scope of Research and Inclusion Criteria
This ranking examined a total of 188,153 scientist profiles identified from a range of bibliometric data sources across all scientific disciplines. Specifically, for the field of Medicine, 54 scientists were evaluated to establish their standing within the Greek medical research community.

This approach guarantees that the ranking consistently includes the top 1% of leading scholars. Additionally, a proximity condition ensures that the difference between a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index does not exceed 30%, maintaining alignment between overall impact and discipline-specific contribution.

Therefore, every scientist profile included in this ranking underwent meticulous manual verification. Profiles were cross-correlated against publications from a wide array of trustworthy and authoritative sources to ensure accuracy and validity of the data.
While the number of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings does not influence the ranking position directly, this serves as an important secondary indicator of a scientist’s contributions to their field.
The position in the ranking is ultimately established using the D-index calculated from information gathered through OpenAlex and CrossRef, which remain the most prominent and widely recognized bibliometric databases available to the global research community.
