The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Immunology Scientists in Canada Ranking is primarily based on comprehensive bibliometric data collected from OpenAlex and CrossRef, supplemented by multiple other reputable bibliometric sources. The citation-based metrics used to compile the ranking were gathered on January 12, 2026, ensuring the data reflects the most current scientific impact within the discipline. A key metric employed in establishing a scientist’s position is the D-index (Discipline H-index), which exclusively accounts for publications and citations pertinent to the specific discipline of Immunology. This approach ensures that the ranking accurately reflects scholarly contributions relevant to the field.
Scope of Research and Inclusion Criteria
In developing the ranking, a total of 187,135 scientist profiles across all disciplines were initially examined from a diverse array of bibliometric data sources. Within the Immunology discipline, 124 scientists were identified and evaluated. To qualify for inclusion in the ranking, a scientist’s D-index had to be at least 40, with the majority of their tier publications focused squarely within Immunology. Additionally, awards and recognized achievements in the field were factored into the qualification process, reinforcing the emphasis on demonstrated excellence.
The threshold for the D-index is calibrated incrementally by 10 points depending on the estimated number of scholars within each discipline, while consistently maintaining the inclusion of the top 1% of scholars to highlight leading researchers. Furthermore, a stringent proximity criterion mandates that the difference between a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index does not exceed 30%, ensuring that the ranking emphasizes domain-specific research impact rather than general productivity.
Verification and Ranking Methodology
Recognizing the limitations inherent in raw bibliometric data as a sole evaluation tool, the Research.com team undertook diligent manual verification for every scientist profile included in the ranking. Each profile was cross-checked against publications listed in a broad range of trustworthy sources to ensure accuracy and authenticity. While the number of papers published in leading journals and conference proceedings does not directly influence a scientist’s position in the ranking, it serves as a valuable secondary indicator of research contribution within Immunology.
