Data Sources and Citation Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Ecology and Evolution Scientists in Poland Ranking leverages comprehensive bibliometric data primarily sourced from OpenAlex and CrossRef, complemented by multiple additional authoritative data repositories. The citation-based metrics underpinning this ranking were meticulously collected on January 12, 2026, ensuring the integration of the most current and robust data available. A scientist’s position within this ranking is determined by their Discipline H-index (D-index), an innovative metric that isolates a researcher’s impact specific to Ecology and Evolution by including only papers and citations relevant to this particular discipline.
Scope of Research and Inclusion Criteria
This ranking rigorously examined 279,971 scientist profiles aggregated from a diverse array of bibliometric data sources, spanning all academic disciplines. Specifically, 34 scientists specialized in Ecology and Evolution were identified for detailed evaluation. To qualify for inclusion, each scientist’s D-index had to be at least 30, and the majority of their tier publications had to be pertinent to Ecology and Evolution. Additionally, accomplishments including awards and notable achievements within the field were considered as supplementary qualifiers.
The threshold for the D-index is dynamically set in increments of 10, proportional to the estimated total number of researchers in each discipline. This approach guarantees the inclusion of the top 1% of leading scholars in Ecology and Evolution. Furthermore, candidates were required to maintain a proximity of 30% or less between their overall H-index and their discipline-specific D-index, ensuring a focused and authentic representation of their expertise and impact within the field.
Verification Practices and Quality Assurance
Recognizing the inherent limitations of raw bibliometric data as an absolute measure of scholarly output, the Research.com team undertook an extensive manual verification process for all scientist profiles. This involved cross-correlating publication records across a broad spectrum of reputable sources to affirm the accuracy and validity of each researcher’s data.
Although the volume of publications in prestigious journals and conference proceedings is not a direct factor influencing a scientist’s ranking position, it serves as a valuable secondary indicator of their contribution and standing within Ecology and Evolution.
The final ranking is established solely by each researcher's verified D-index calculated from OpenAlex and CrossRef — the most prominent and widely respected bibliometric databases accessible to the global research community.
