To ensure discipline-specific accuracy, a researcher’s position in the ranking is determined exclusively by their D-index (Discipline H-index), which accounts solely for publications and citations relevant to the Animal Science and Veterinary discipline.
Scope and Criteria of the Ranking
In assembling the ranking, a comprehensive assessment was conducted on a total of 279,971 scientist profiles identified from a variety of bibliometric data sources across all disciplines. Specifically, within the Animal Science and Veterinary domain, 2 qualified scientists were examined rigorously.
To be considered for inclusion in the ranking, a researcher was required to have a D-index of at least 20, with the majority of their tier publications concentrated within Animal Science and Veterinary research. Additionally, distinguished awards and measurable achievements relevant to the field were incorporated as evaluative factors.
The D-index threshold for recognizing top researchers is set dynamically as increments of 10, calibrated according to the overall estimated scholar population within each discipline. This approach guarantees representation of the top 1% of leading scholars. Furthermore, a proximity criterion was applied, ensuring that the difference between a scientist’s overall H-index and their D-index does not exceed 30%, thereby validating specialty alignment.
Verification and Validation Processes
The Research.com team acknowledges that raw bibliometric data alone cannot serve as an absolute measure of a scholar’s output or impact. Consequently, each scientist profile was painstakingly manually verified and cross-correlated against publications indexed in a broad spectrum of reliable and authoritative sources.
While the volume of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings does not directly influence a researcher’s rank position, it is recognized as a valuable secondary indicator of scientific contribution and standing within the Animal Science and Veterinary community.
The ranking positions are determined primarily by each researcher’s D-index, calculated using data curated from OpenAlex and CrossRef, two of the most prominent and well-established bibliometric databases accessible to the global research community.
