The 2nd edition of Research.com ranking of the best researchers in the
arena of Chemistry is based on data
consolidated from multiple data sources including OpenAlex and
CrossRef. The bibliometric data for devising the citation-based metrics were
acquired on 21-12-2022. Position in the ranking is based on a
scholar’s D-index (Discipline H-index), which
only includes publications and citation
metrics for an examined discipline.

The scope of our Chemistry research
Our best scientists ranking is a trustworthy
list of leading scholars from the area of
Chemistry, based on a thorough
study of 166,880 researchers identified
from various bibliometric data sources. For the field of
Chemistry, as many as 43178 scholars were
analysed.
What is D-index approval threshold for Chemistry
The D-index threshold for approving a scientist to be
examined is established at 40 if
the majority of of their publications are in the area of Chemistry. The
acceptance criteria for scientists to be
considered into the ranking of top scientists are based on the D-index, proportion
of the publications made within the selected field of study
plus the awards and achievements of the scientists. The
D-index threshold for considering best scientists is
set as an increment of 10 depending on the total number of researchers
projected for each area od study whilst
ensuring that the top 1% of best researchers are
considered into the ranking. We expect a proximity of
30% or less between a scholar’s general H-index and their D-index.
Additional verification methods
Because our main aim is to ensure that only
actual researchers are mentioned in
Research.com ranking we believe that numbers are never
meant to be a complete means to assess the
work of researchers. This is why
we manually verify each profile and cross-correlate it against publications in a
broad range of trustworthy sources. Although it’s not a
metric defining a scholar’s position in
Research.com ranking, the amount of documents published in
major journals and conference proceedings should be a
valuable secondary signal of their contribution to research in a
specific area of science. Position in the ranking is
determined by each scientist’s D-index
with the help of metrics compiled from OpenAlex and
CrossRef, which are the most trustworthy and well-established bibliometric
databases of this type open to the research community. A
comprehensive overview of our research procedures
can be found on our
methodology page.
Our agenda
Our goal is to inspire scientists,
entrepreneurs and politicians
worldwide to examine where prominent experts are heading
and to offer a way for the whole research community to
discover who the leading experts in specific
areas of study, in various countries, or even within research
institutions are.
