Data Sources and Bibliometric Foundations
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Business and Management Scientists in India Ranking was developed using comprehensive bibliometric data primarily sourced from OpenAlex and CrossRef, complemented by multiple additional trusted data repositories. The citation-based metrics integral to the ranking methodology were collected on January 12, 2026, ensuring that the analysis is based on the most up-to-date and robust dataset available. A researcher’s position within the ranking is determined exclusively by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a metric that considers only the publications and citation impact relevant to the examined discipline, thereby providing a focused and discipline-specific evaluation of scientific influence.
Scope of Research and Eligibility Criteria
The ranking framework began with an extensive examination of 279,971 scientist profiles aggregated from a diverse range of bibliometric data sources covering all academic disciplines. Specifically, within the field of Business and Management, 28 scientists were identified and evaluated in depth. To qualify for inclusion in the ranking, a scientist’s D-index was required to be at least 30, reflecting a high degree of disciplinary impact. In addition, the majority of a qualified researcher’s tier publications needed to be firmly situated within the Business and Management domain. Verified awards and achievements pertinent to this field also factored into consideration.
The D-index threshold varies by discipline, adjusted upward in increments of 10 according to the estimated total number of scholars in each field. This approach guarantees that the top 1% of leading scholars in every discipline are incorporated into the ranking. Furthermore, to ensure alignment between overall and field-specific impact, the proximity between a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index must not exceed 30%, maintaining credibility and relevance in the discipline-specific appraisal.
Verification and Validation Practices
The Research.com team acknowledges that raw bibliometric data, while invaluable, cannot serve as an absolute measure of scholarly output. Consequently, all scientist profiles included in the ranking underwent rigorous manual verification. The publication records and citation data were cross-correlated against a broad spectrum of reputable sources to validate accuracy and reduce discrepancies.
While not a direct factor affecting position in the Research.com ranking, the volume of publications in leading journals and conference proceedings is considered a crucial secondary indicator of a scientist’s contribution to their area of study.
The final ranking positions derive from each researcher's D-index, calculated from data aggregated from OpenAlex and CrossRef—two of the most prominent and trusted bibliometric databases accessible to the research community.
