A scientist's position in the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a metric that exclusively accounts for papers and citations relevant to the examined discipline—in this case, Business and Management. By focusing on discipline-specific impact, the D-index provides a more precise evaluation of a researcher’s influence within their respective field.
Scope of Research and Qualification Criteria
The ranking evaluates 279,971 scientist profiles identified from a variety of bibliometric data sources spanning all academic disciplines. Specifically, for Business and Management, 29 scientists were thoroughly examined. To qualify for inclusion in this ranking, researchers were required to meet several stringent criteria:
- A minimum D-index of 30 within the Business and Management discipline;
- A majority of tier publications concentrated in the field of Business and Management;
- Recognition of notable awards and achievements pertinent to Business and Management research.
The D-index threshold is calibrated in increments of 10 according to the estimated number of active scholars in each discipline, ensuring that the top 1% of leading researchers are incorporated in the list. Additionally, to confirm disciplinary relevance, the discrepancy between a scientist’s general H-index and their discipline-specific D-index must not exceed 30%.
Verification Practices and Data Integrity
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data are never intended as absolute measures of scholarly output, our team undertook extensive manual verification of all scientist profiles included in the ranking. This process involved cross-correlating researchers’ publication records with data from a wide range of trustworthy and authoritative academic sources.
While the number of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings does not directly influence a researcher’s rank on Research.com, it serves as a valuable secondary indicator of their contribution and engagement within the Business and Management research community.
The ranking positions are ultimately established using each researcher’s D-index, derived from data consolidated by OpenAlex and CrossRef—two of the most prominent bibliometric databases currently available to the global research community.
