A scientist’s position within the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a refined variation of the traditional H-index. The D-index specifically accounts for citation metrics and publications strictly within the examined discipline, in this case Business and Management. This ensures that the ranking reflects disciplinary impact rather than generalized academic productivity.
Scope of Research and Inclusion Criteria
Our evaluation encompassed a total of 279,971 scientist profiles spanning all academic disciplines, extracted from a wide array of bibliometric datasets. Among these, 1,215 scientists were identified specifically within the Business and Management field in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
To qualify for inclusion in this ranking, a scientist’s D-index in Business and Management must be at least 30, with the majority of their tier publications explicitly related to this discipline. Additionally, awards and notable achievements within the Business and Management area were considered as important qualitative factors that further validate the contributions of the scientists.
The D-index threshold for identifying top researchers is carefully calibrated in increments of 10, determined by the total estimated number of scholars in each discipline. This approach ensures the inclusion of the top 1% of leading scholars per field, balancing rigor and inclusiveness. Furthermore, to maintain disciplinary relevance, a proximity limit is imposed such that the difference between a scientist’s overall H-index and their D-index does not exceed 30%.
Verification and Validation Practices
We acknowledge that raw data alone cannot serve as an absolute measure of scholarly output. To uphold the highest standards of accuracy and credibility, every scientist profile listed was manually verified by our research team. Profiles were cross-referenced against a wide variety of trusted publication sources to confirm alignment with the reported bibliometric data.
While not directly influencing ranking positions, the volume of papers published in prestigious journals and conference proceedings is considered a valuable secondary indicator of a scientist’s influence in Business and Management research.
The ranking positions fundamentally rely on each researcher’s D-index, based on data aggregated from OpenAlex and CrossRef, two of the most authoritative and widely recognized bibliometric databases available to the scholarly community.
