Call for Papers

The 60th US Rock Mechanics / Geomechanics Symposium of the American Rock Mechanics Association will be held in Tucson, Arizona, USA, on 21-24 June 2026. The symposium will be hosted by the University of Arizona and take place at the Loews Ventana Canyon Resort. The technical program will focus on theoretical advances and innovative applied research in rock mechanics and geomechanics. Technical tours and field trips are planned to take place before and after the symposium. Short courses and workshops will be held prior to the symposium.

Tucson is shaped as much by the Sonoran Desert as it is by its deep roots in mining and education. Encircled by five distinct mountain ranges and bathed in abundant sunshine, the city offers dramatic landscapes, clear starlit skies, and a unique fusion of Native American, Mexican, and Western influences. Tucson has long been a hub for the extractive industries and is home to the University of Arizona’s School of Mining and Mineral Resources (SMEMR), recognized for its strong ties to industry and cutting‑edge research. As the first UNESCO City of Gastronomy in the U.S., Tucson also offers a vibrant culinary scene, local arts, and abundant outdoor recreation.

The 60th US Rock Mechanics / Geomechanics Symposium will take place at the Loews Ventana Canyon Resort, nestled in the foothills of the Catalina Mountains. ARMA has reserved the entire resort for the duration of the event, meaning all lodging, meeting spaces, and gathering areas are conveniently located on one scenic property. Beyond comfortable accommodations and well‑equipped session rooms, attendees can enjoy numerous on‑site amenities, including tennis and pickleball courts, two Tom Fazio-designed golf courses, multiple pools, canyon hiking trails, a lakeside spa, and organized stargazing that takes full advantage of Tucson’s famously clear night skies.

Related Online Degrees & Career Pathways

Studying Earth Science opens a variety of pathways, from environmental consulting to geospatial analysis. Many students explore most in demand master's degrees to enhance their expertise and job prospects in this competitive field.

For those seeking quicker entry into the workforce, 2 year degrees offer a practical alternative. These programs provide essential foundational knowledge in Earth Science and related disciplines, often available fully online for flexibility.

Finding affordable education is crucial. Numerous cheap online colleges provide accredited Earth Science programs, making higher education accessible without sacrificing quality.

Additionally, individuals with less-than-perfect academic records can still pursue their goals through low gpa colleges that accept students based on potential and experience. This inclusivity helps widen opportunities in Earth Science careers for diverse learners.
