Overview

The University of Oklahoma, also known as OU, is a public research institute of higher education situated in Norman, Oklahoma. It is classified as an R1: Doctoral University, which means it has very high research activity. Aside from its academic and research programs, the institution is also known for its Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History and the Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art, which specializes in Native American works and French Impressionism.

It also has strong sports programs, which brought numerous football national championships and baseball division championships. Furthermore, the women's softball team brought home several national championships. Its gymnastics teams, both the men's and women's, are also among the most competitive, with a combined 11 national championships from 2002 to 2017.

The university is divided into three campuses: the main campus, north campus, and south campus. These are connected by a bus service that can bring students from the main to the south campus within 5 to 10 minutes. The campuses are mostly composed of wooded areas and green open spaces, along with academic buildings and facilities. A relatively new research campus was established as a part of the university's expansion. The University of Oklahoma's Research Campus is home to research bodies such as the Radar Research Center, the National Weather Center, and the Life Sciences Research Center, among others. Additionally, the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center is located at the Oklahoma Health Center.

OU also has another campus in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The University of Oklahoma-Tulsa Schusterman Center, also known as OU-Tulsa, is home to the School of Community Medicine and OU Physicians-Tulsa. The campus offers various programs in physical therapy, medicine, early childhood education, education, nursing, and engineering.

Furthermore, a Student Center was established by the university in Arezzo, Italy. The University of Oklahoma-Tulsa Schusterman Center, also called OUA, is open to students of all majors who want to experience studying abroad. They can enroll for a semester, in a summer program, or for a full year. Internships and scholarships are also available. Other study centers are located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and Puebla, Mexico. Another center is being developed in Izmir, Turkey.

OU offers numerous degree-granting programs through its colleges. These include the College of Arts and Letters, the College of Law, the College of International Studies, the College Of Atmospheric and Geographic Sciences, the Christopher C. Gibbs College of Architecture, the Michael F. Price College Of Business, the Jeannine Rainbolt College Of Education, the Mewbourne College Of Earth And Energy, the Gallogly College Of Engineering, the Gaylord College Of Journalism And Mass Communication, and the Weitzenhoffer Family College Of Fine Arts.

Additionally, the university offers various programs targeted at professionals through the OU Extended Campus and the OU Outreach - College of Continuing Education. It also has a variety of programs offered through one of the colleges in the OU Health Sciences Center, which include the Colleges of Public Health, Medicine, Pharmacy, and Dentistry as well as the Fran And Earl Ziegler College Of Nursing

Campus life at the University of Oklahoma is not only focused on academics and research. Students can explore their specific interests through one of the over 400 organizations on campus. Additionally, they can join one of the best athletics programs in the state and the country. Outside the campus, Norman offers a laid-back atmosphere of a college town. And the campus is just a short drive to Oklahoma City for that more urban vibe.
