Overview

São Paulo State University, officially known as Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP), is a premier Brazilian public university located in the state of São Paulo. It was founded in 1923 and went on to become one of the best universities in the country. It continues to be ranked as one of the top universities around the world as well. Furthermore, it is the only Brazilian university to become a member of the Compostela Group of Universities.

The university has some of the best infrastructures and facilities in the country. There are currently more than 20 campuses in the state that houses various faculties and schools. Aside from strong academic systems, it also has one of the best research arms in Brazil. It manages close to 2,000 laboratories and around 30 libraries. On top of that, its campuses are home to numerous gardens, parks, botanical gardens, museums, and experimental farms.

Another strong suit of UNESP is its medicine program. Students have access to the Hospital de Clínicas de Botucatu, a teaching hospital owned by the university, as well as the State Hospital of Baur which the university manages. It has various departments and clinics for Dentistry, Psychology, Speech Therapy, Physiotherapy, and even Veterinary Medicine. In these facilities, students have the opportunity to gain real-world experiences through internships and projects.

Currently, UNESP offers a wide number of degree-granting programs at different levels. Students can choose from areas of study such as Chemistry, Agricultural Sciences, Engineering, Dentistry, Medicine, Pharmacy, Veterinary, Liberal Arts, and more. Additionally, they have the opportunity to participate in almost 150 international cooperation and exchange programs. The university even has agreements with universities from over 50 countries such as the United States, Scotland, Argentina, Canada, China, France, Spain, Russia, and Germany, among others.

Additionally, the university offers the Brazilian Virtual Exchange Program (BRaVE). It is an online learning program that establishes collaborative relationships between the students of UNESP and other participating universities. Students enjoy an exchange of ideas and culture with foreign participants at a low cost.

Aside from premier research initiatives in Brazil, the university's research bodies also follow their Strategic Internationalization Plan. Some of its goals are sustainability, community engagement, collaboration, and publication impact. This provides more opportunities for students and faculty members to participate in local and international research projects.

Furthermore, as São Paulo is home to many large multinational sectors with offices in the city, UNESP has forged partnerships with organizations and companies in various industries over the years. Through these, a plethora of good internship programs is available to their students.

Aside from top-notch programs and state-of-the-art facilities on campuses, students enjoy the vibrant life in the state through restaurants, museums, parks, clubs, outdoor spaces, and more.
