A university’s position in the ranking is determined by the cumulative D-indexes (Discipline H-index) of all qualifying scholars affiliated with that institution, whose primary publication area is Business and Management. The D-index is a specialized metric that incorporates only publications and citation data pertinent to the discipline being evaluated, ensuring a precise reflection of scientific output and impact within Business and Management.
Scope of Research and Selection Criteria
The ranking’s rigorous scope is grounded in the systematic examination of 279,971 scientist profiles sourced from a range of bibliometric databases. Specifically, 9,829 scientists specializing in Business and Management were analyzed for inclusion. To ensure a high standard of excellence, only those scientists with a D-index of at least 30 were considered, and the majority of their publications had to be firmly within the area of Business and Management.
Further enhancing the integrity of the listing, each scientist’s awards and significant achievements in Business and Management were also taken into account. The minimum D-index required to classify top researchers increases incrementally—by 10-point steps—based on the total number of scholars within each discipline, guaranteeing that the top 1% of leading scholars are represented. Moreover, the proximity between a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index must be 30% or less, reinforcing the focus on discipline-specific excellence. Scientist awards and contributions within their field remained important supplementary considerations in the overall assessment.
Verification and Validation Practices
The Research.com team recognizes that raw bibliometric data alone cannot serve as the sole instrument for evaluating scholarly excellence. Thus, an exhaustive, manual verification process was employed: every scientist profile was reviewed and cross-referenced with publications indexed in a broad array of trusted and reputable sources. This extensive quality assurance ensures both accuracy and fairness in rankings.
While the number of publications in esteemed journals and conference proceedings does not directly affect a researcher’s ranking position, it is regarded as a valuable secondary signal of scientific contribution within a given discipline. The final ranking is established using each researcher's H-index, sourced from OpenAlex and CrossRef—two of the most authoritative and widely recognized bibliometric databases available to the academic community.
