Data Sources and Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Political Science Scientists in Mexico Ranking is grounded on robust bibliometric data primarily sourced from OpenAlex and CrossRef, complemented by multiple additional reputable data repositories. The citation-based metrics used to construct the ranking were compiled on January 12, 2026, ensuring the dataset reflects the most current and comprehensive scholarly output available. Central to the ranking methodology is the D-index (Discipline H-index), a refined metric that evaluates a researcher’s impact strictly within the examined discipline—in this case, Political Science—by including only papers and citations directly relevant to that field.
Scope of Research and Selection Criteria
The ranking process evaluated a total of 279,971 scientist profiles aggregated from diverse bibliometric sources across all scientific disciplines. Among these, profiles belonging to 1,000 scientists specializing specifically in Political Science were scrutinized for inclusion. To qualify for the ranking, candidates were required to have a minimum D-index of 20, alongside a significant majority of their highest-tier publications being classified within Political Science. In addition to bibliometric indicators, researchers’ awards and notable achievements within the discipline were also taken into consideration.
The threshold for the D-index is dynamically calibrated in increments of 10 based on the estimated total population of scholars in each discipline. This approach ensures that approximately the top 1% of leading experts are incorporated into the ranking while maintaining a disciplinary focus. Furthermore, to safeguard the ranking’s disciplinary relevance, only researchers whose D-index is within 30% or less of their general H-index are considered, thus ensuring alignment between their overall scholarly impact and their contributions to Political Science.
Verification and Quality Assurance
Recognizing the inherent limitations of raw bibliometric data as an absolute measure of scholarly output, the Research.com team has implemented rigorous manual verification procedures. Each scientist profile was meticulously cross-checked against a wide array of trustworthy publication sources to confirm accuracy and authenticity. Although not directly influencing the ranking position, the volume of publications in leading journals and major conference proceedings serves as an important secondary indicator of a researcher’s contribution to the field.
Ultimately, a researcher’s position in the ranking is determined by their D-index as computed from data acquired through the most prominent and widely recognized bibliometric databases, OpenAlex and CrossRef. These databases form the backbone of the evaluation process and ensure that the ranking reflects verifiable and credible scholarly metrics.
