The ranking positions are determined based on each scientist’s D-index (Discipline H-index), a refined bibliometric measure that considers only those publications and citation counts relevant to the specific disciplinary domain—in this case, Political Science. This approach allows for a precise assessment that reflects a scholar’s impact specifically within their field of expertise, rather than multidisciplinary academic contributions.
Scope of Research and Inclusion Criteria
To establish a meaningful and representative ranking, a total of 279,971 scientist profiles from a wide spectrum of disciplines were analyzed using data sourced from diverse bibliometric platforms. Within the Political Science discipline specifically, 15 scientist profiles were identified and scrutinized in detail.
Eligibility for the Political Science ranking required candidates to meet a minimum D-index threshold of 20. Furthermore, a majority of the researcher’s tier-level publications had to be predominantly categorized within Political Science. Consideration was also given to noteworthy awards and achievements relevant to the discipline, which complemented the bibliometric indicators.
The D-index threshold varies in increments of 10 relative to the estimated population size of scholars within each discipline. This adaptive thresholding guarantees inclusion of the top 1% of leading experts while maintaining rigorous standards. Additionally, to ensure field-specific coherence, a researcher’s general H-index and D-index must exhibit a proximity ratio within 30%, thereby confirming the dominance of their disciplinary impact.
Verification and Quality Assurance
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data alone cannot fully capture the multifaceted contributions of researchers, the team behind the ranking undertook extensive manual verification processes. Each scientist’s profile was cross-referenced against a broad array of validated sources and publication records to authenticate the data.
While the number of publications in high-impact journals and conference proceedings is not directly factored into the ranking position, this metric provides a valuable ancillary signal concerning a scientist’s scholarly contributions and standing within Political Science. The ranking itself is fundamentally anchored in the D-index computed from OpenAlex and CrossRef data, which remain the most authoritative bibliometric resources accessible to the research community today.
