Bibliometric data used to derive the citation-based metrics for this ranking were collected on January 12, 2026. The key metric for positioning scientists in the ranking is the D-index (Discipline H-index), a refined adaptation of the traditional H-index that exclusively considers publications and corresponding citations within the examined discipline — in this case, Medicine. This ensures the ranking reflects discipline-specific research impact and expertise.
Scope of Research and Qualification Criteria
Our analysis encompassed 188,153 scientist profiles identified from a diverse range of bibliometric sources across all scientific disciplines. Within the Medicine discipline specifically, 1,000 scientists were examined in detail.
To qualify for inclusion in the Best Medicine Scientists in Kuwait Ranking, candidates were required to meet a minimum D-index threshold of 70. Additionally, a majority of the candidate’s tier publications—defined by citation impact and visibility—had to be directly within the Medicine discipline. A scientist’s awards and notable achievements within Medicine also formed an important qualitative factor in consideration.
The D-index threshold used to identify leading researchers is calibrated in increments of 10, reflecting the estimated total number of scholars within each discipline. This approach guarantees that the top 1% of leading scholars by discipline are systematically incorporated into the ranking cohort. Another important criterion is that the proximity between a scientist’s general H-index and their Medicine-specific D-index does not exceed 30%, securing discipline-focused research impact without disproportionate influence from unrelated fields.
Verification and Quality Assurance
We recognize that raw bibliometric data alone cannot serve as an absolute measure of scholarly output or impact. Accordingly, all scientist profiles included in the ranking underwent manual verification. Profiles were meticulously cross-correlated against publications indexed in a broad spectrum of trustworthy sources to ensure accuracy and comprehensiveness.
While not directly influencing a researcher’s ranking position, the volume of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings remains a valuable secondary indicator of an individual’s contribution to their specific field of study. The rank itself is determined solely by each researcher’s D-index, which is computed based on verified information from OpenAlex and CrossRef—two of the most authoritative and widely recognized bibliometric databases available to the global research community.
