Data Sources and Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Law Scientists in Sweden Ranking is principally grounded in bibliometric data sourced from OpenAlex and CrossRef, supplemented by multiple other credible databases to ensure comprehensive coverage and accuracy. The citation-based metrics used to compile the ranking were collected on January 12, 2026. Researchers’ positions in the ranking are determined by their Discipline-specific H-index (D-index), a refined metric that accounts exclusively for papers and citation impact within the examined discipline of Law. This approach focuses the evaluation strictly on scholarly contributions pertinent to the field, enhancing the precision and relevance of the ranking.
Scope of Research Evaluated
The ranking draws from a broad database encompassing 279,971 scientist profiles identified across various bibliometric data repositories spanning all academic disciplines. Among these, 1,012 scientists specifically specializing in Law were examined to determine eligibility for inclusion. To qualify, a scientist’s D-index had to be at least 20, reflecting a significant level of scholarly influence within Law, with the majority of their top-tier publications concentrated in this discipline. Additionally, awards and notable achievements within the legal field were taken into account to acknowledge broader contributions beyond citation metrics.
The threshold for the D-index is dynamically set in increments of 10, tailored to the estimated population of researchers within each discipline. This adaptive thresholding is designed to ensure the inclusion of the top 1% of leading scholars. Furthermore, to maintain fidelity in disciplinary focus, a proximity criterion is applied whereby the difference between a scientist’s overall H-index and their Law-specific D-index must not exceed 30%, thereby affirming that the scholar’s primary impact remains within the scope of legal research.
Verification and Validation Practices
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data alone cannot definitively capture the nuanced value of scholarly work, the Research.com team conducted rigorous manual verification of all scientist profiles. This verification process involved cross-referencing publications against a diverse range of authoritative sources to authenticate the accuracy and relevance of each profile’s data.
While the ranking itself is exclusively derived from the D-index metric based on OpenAlex and CrossRef data—two of the most respected and widely utilized bibliometric databases available to the research community—the volume of publications in prestigious journals and leading conference proceedings is also considered a meaningful secondary indicator of a scientist’s prominence and contribution to the field.
