Data Sources and Bibliometric Basis of the Ranking
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Immunology Scientists in Mexico Ranking was constructed primarily using comprehensive bibliometric data extracted from OpenAlex and CrossRef, supplemented by multiple other reputable data sources. This multi-source approach ensures a broad and reliable foundation for the citation-based metrics employed in the ranking. The data collection took place on January 12, 2026, capturing the most current publication and citation records available at that time.
A scientist’s standing within the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a metric that selectively incorporates only the papers and citation metrics relevant to the Immunology discipline under scrutiny. By focusing specifically on discipline-relevant contributions, the D-index offers a nuanced and precise quantification of a researcher’s impact within their specialized field.
Scope of Research and Qualification Criteria
The ranking process involved a thorough examination of 187,135 scientist profiles obtained from diverse bibliometric repositories spanning all research disciplines. From this expansive pool, profiles of 9 researchers whose primary focus is Immunology in Mexico were specifically analyzed for this edition.
To qualify for inclusion in the Immunology ranking, a researcher was required to meet the following criteria:
- Possess a D-index of at least 40, ensuring a baseline of impactful scholarly output within Immunology.
- Maintain a majority of their tier publications explicitly situated in Immunology.
- Additional considerations included recognized awards and achievements within the Immunology community, reinforcing scholarly prominence beyond bibliometric indicators alone.
The threshold for the D-index is calibrated incrementally by 10 points, adjusted according to the overall estimated scholar count in each discipline. This method robustly guarantees inclusion of the top 1% of leading experts. Moreover, a maximum proximity threshold of 30% is maintained between a scientist’s general H-index and their Immunology-specific D-index, ensuring alignment between overall impact and disciplinary focus.
Verification Practices and Methodological Rigor
Recognizing the limitations of raw bibliometric data as an absolute evaluative tool, the Research.com team engaged in comprehensive manual verification of all scientist profiles featured in the ranking. This process entailed cross-correlation of publication records against a wide spectrum of trustworthy secondary sources to confirm authenticity and relevance.
While a researcher’s position in the ranking is established exclusively through the D-index calculated from OpenAlex and CrossRef data—acknowledged as the most authoritative and widely accessible bibliometric databases—additional metrics such as the number of publications in prominent journals and major conference proceedings were reviewed as valuable secondary indicators of scholarly influence.
