Data Sources and Bibliometric Collection
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Environmental Sciences Scientists in Iran, Islamic Republic Of Ranking is primarily based on comprehensive bibliometric data sourced principally from OpenAlex and CrossRef, supplemented by multiple other reputable data repositories. These platforms collectively provide extensive metadata on publications, citations, and author profiles, ensuring broad and reliable coverage of research outputs.
The bibliometric data used to derive the citation-based metrics underpinning this ranking were collected on January 12, 2026. This snapshot ensures consistency and comparability in the citation counts and publication records evaluated. A scientist's position within the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a metric that accounts exclusively for papers and citation counts within the specific discipline of Environmental Sciences, thereby reflecting specialized scholarly impact rather than general citation performance.
Scope of Research and Ranking Criteria
Our evaluation encompassed a total of 279,971 scientist profiles drawn from a variety of bibliometric data sources spanning all academic disciplines. From this extensive pool, 30 scientists specializing in Environmental Sciences were specifically identified and assessed.
To qualify for inclusion in the ranking, a researcher was required to have a minimum D-index of 30, signifying a substantial and consistent impact in Environmental Sciences. Furthermore, the majority of their highest-tier publications needed to fall predominantly within this field, underscoring discipline-specific contributions. Additional consideration was given to awards and notable achievements recognized within Environmental Sciences, reinforcing a multi-dimensional appraisal of scholarly excellence.
The D-index threshold applied follows a calibrated increment of 10 points relative to the estimated total number of scholars in each discipline. This design ensures inclusion of approximately the top 1% of leading researchers while maintaining discipline-specific relevance. An essential methodological constraint is that the disparity between a researcher’s overall H-index and their D-index must not exceed 30%, confirming that the scientist’s impact is concentrated within Environmental Sciences rather than being disproportionally influenced by broader or unrelated fields.
Verification and Methodological Rigor
Recognizing the inherent limitations of any bibliometric dataset, the Research.com team conducted meticulous manual verification of all scientist profiles included in the ranking. Each profile was cross-examined against publications recorded in a wide array of trusted academic sources to assure accuracy and integrity of the data. This layer of validation mitigates errors or inconsistencies potentially present in raw datasets, reinforcing the credibility of the ranking outcomes.
Although secondary to the primary metric, the volume of papers published in internationally prominent journals and conference proceedings serves as an important supplementary indicator of a scientist’s contribution to advancing Environmental Sciences. The final ranking position, however, remains exclusively anchored on the rigorously calculated D-index derived from OpenAlex and CrossRef data—the two most authoritative and widely recognized bibliometric databases accessible to the scholarly community.
