Data Sources and Citation Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Environmental Sciences Scientists in Bangladesh Ranking is underpinned by an extensive collection of bibliometric data primarily sourced from OpenAlex and CrossRef, along with multiple other reputable data repositories. The bibliometric information used to derive the citation-based metrics was collected on January 12, 2026. Each scientist's position in the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a refined metric that exclusively considers papers and citation counts pertinent to the specific examined discipline, thereby ensuring that the evaluation reflects true disciplinary impact and focus.
Scope of Research and Qualification Criteria
The ranking encompasses an analysis of 279,971 scientist profiles collated from diverse bibliometric data sources covering all research disciplines globally. Within this extensive dataset, 4 scientists specialized in Environmental Sciences from Bangladesh were identified and evaluated. To qualify for a position within the ranking, a scientist must have a D-index of at least 30, with the majority of their tier publications focused explicitly on Environmental Sciences. Furthermore, scientists' awards and significant achievements within the field were also taken into account.
The D-index threshold for recognizing top researchers is dynamically set in increments of 10, adjusted according to the total number of scholars estimated within each discipline. This calibration ensures the inclusion of approximately the top 1% of leading scholars. Additionally, to maintain coherence between generalized and discipline-specific impact, a proximity criterion requires that the difference between a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index does not exceed 30%.
Verification Practices and Ranking Methodology
We acknowledge that bibliometric data alone cannot capture the full scope of a scholar’s contributions. Therefore, all scientist profiles underwent rigorous manual verification and were cross-referenced against publications listed in a broad array of trustworthy academic sources. Although the number of papers published in prestigious journals and conference proceedings is not directly weighted in the ranking, it serves as a valuable secondary indicator of a scientist’s contributions to Environmental Sciences research.
The final determination of ranking positions is based on each researcher's D-index, derived from the comprehensive data gathered through OpenAlex and CrossRef, which are among the most recognized and authoritative bibliometric databases accessible to the global research community.
