This ensures that the evaluation reflects research impact and productivity within the relevant field rather than across a researcher’s entire body of work indiscriminately.
Scope of Research Covered in the Ranking
For this edition, a total of 279,971 scientist profiles drawn from a wide array of bibliometric data sources were examined across all academic disciplines, with 16 scientists specifically identified within the Engineering and Technology domain in Thailand. To qualify for inclusion in the ranking, a scientist was required to meet a minimum D-index threshold of 30, ensuring recognition of established research impact.
In addition to meeting this quantitative criterion, a majority of a qualifying scientist’s tier publications had to be primarily within the field of Engineering and Technology. Awards and achievements relevant to Engineering and Technology were also carefully considered as supplementary indicators of a researcher’s prominence in the field.
The threshold for the D-index is stratified in increments of 10 according to the estimated total population of scholars in each discipline, with the design goal of incorporating the top 1% of leading researchers in every category. Additionally, a proximity criterion mandates that the difference between a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index does not exceed 30%, ensuring congruence between overall scholarly impact and discipline-specific contributions.
Additional Verification Practices
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data alone cannot serve as an absolute measure of scientific output or value, the Research.com team has conducted thorough manual verification of all scientist profiles included in the ranking. This process involved cross-correlating publications and citations against a wide range of trusted academic sources to validate the accuracy and authenticity of data.
While the number of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings does not directly influence the researcher’s numerical ranking, this metric serves as a valuable secondary indicator of a scientist’s substantive contributions to their discipline. The position in the ranking itself is strictly founded on each researcher's D-index as derived from information obtained via OpenAlex and CrossRef, two of the most prominent and widely adopted bibliometric databases accessible to the global research community.
