In total, 279,971 scientist profiles identified across various bibliometric sources covering all disciplines were initially examined. Of these, 16 scientists specialized in Engineering and Technology were selected for detailed consideration. To qualify for the ranking, a scientist was required to have a D-index of at least 30, with the majority of their tier publications oriented toward Engineering and Technology.
Beyond bibliometric indicators, scientists’ awards and achievements in Engineering and Technology also factored into the evaluation process, providing a qualitative dimension to complement the quantitative metrics. The D-index thresholds were calibrated in increments of 10, proportionally to the estimated number of scholars within each discipline, ensuring that the top 1% of leading researchers are represented in the ranking. Furthermore, to confirm the focused nature of a researcher’s contributions, the difference between their general H-index and their discipline-specific D-index was maintained within a proximity of 30% or less.
Verification and Methodological Rigor
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data alone cannot serve as an absolute measure of scholarly output, the Research.com team manually verified all scientist profiles. This process involved cross-correlating publication records against a wide range of reputable academic journals, conference proceedings, and other trustworthy sources. Although the number of publications in prominent venues was not a direct factor influencing ranking position, it remains a valuable secondary signal reflecting each scientist’s research contributions within their specific area of science.
The final position in the ranking is firmly grounded in each researcher’s D-index calculated from data obtained from OpenAlex and CrossRef, two of the most prominent and widely recognized bibliometric databases available to the global research community.
