Data Sources and Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Ecology and Evolution Scientists in Georgia Ranking is derived primarily from data aggregated by OpenAlex and CrossRef, alongside several other authoritative bibliometric databases. The bibliometric information used to calculate the citation-based metrics for this ranking was collected on January 12, 2026. A scientist’s placement within the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), which exclusively considers publications and citation metrics pertinent to the Ecology and Evolution discipline. This specialized focus ensures that the measured impact accurately reflects contributions within the relevant field rather than a researcher’s general scholarly output.
Scope of Research and Inclusion Criteria
This ranking is based on an extensive examination of 279,971 scientist profiles across all disciplines, with a focused subset of 1,234 scientists specifically identified in Ecology and Evolution. To qualify for inclusion, candidates were required to have a D-index of at least 30, ensuring a benchmark of significant scholarly influence within the discipline. Additionally, a majority of their tier publications needed to be aligned with Ecology and Evolution topics, confirming a strong disciplinary focus. Awards and notable achievements in Ecology and Evolution were also considered in evaluating candidates qualitatively.
The threshold for the D-index is adjusted in increments of 10 based on the estimated total number of scholars in each discipline, guaranteeing representation of the top 1% of leading experts. To maintain relevance and precision, only those researchers whose overall H-index and D-index differ by 30% or less were included, ensuring coherence between a scientist’s general impact and discipline-specific contributions.
Verification Practices
At Research.com, we recognize that raw bibliometric data alone cannot fully capture the depth of a researcher’s scholarly output or impact. Therefore, all scientist profiles undergo a rigorous manual verification process. Profiles are cross-correlated against publications verified through a broad spectrum of trusted sources, enhancing the credibility and accuracy of the ranking.
While not directly influencing ranking positions, the number of publications in prominent journals and conference proceedings serves as a valuable secondary indicator of a scientist’s contributions to Ecology and Evolution research. The ranking itself is firmly grounded on the D-index metric, calculated from data compiled from OpenAlex and CrossRef—the foremost and most respected bibliometric databases accessible to the global research community.
