Data Sources and Citation Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Ecology and Evolution Scientists in United Arab Emirates Ranking is built upon comprehensive bibliometric data primarily sourced from OpenAlex and CrossRef, alongside multiple other authoritative databases. The citation-based metrics that underpin this ranking were meticulously collected on January 12, 2026. Central to the ranking methodology is the D-index (Discipline H-index), a refined measure that considers only those papers and citation metrics pertinent to the examined discipline, thereby ensuring the evaluation is focused and relevant to Ecology and Evolution.
Scope of Research and Eligibility Criteria
To ensure rigorous inclusivity and discipline specificity, a total of 279,971 scientist profiles drawn from diverse bibliometric data sources across all disciplines were examined. Of those, 2,000 profiles were identified as belonging specifically to scientists specializing in Ecology and Evolution. Eligibility for the ranking required a D-index threshold of no less than 30, with an additional criterion that the majority of a scientist’s tier publications be rooted firmly within the Ecology and Evolution domain. Besides bibliometric metrics, a scientist’s awards and achievements in the field were also taken into account.
The D-index threshold is dynamically set in increments of 10, calibrated according to the estimated total number of scholars in each discipline, while rigorously guaranteeing the inclusion of at least the top 1% of leading experts. Furthermore, to maintain domain-specific assessment integrity, the proximity between a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index is constrained to 30% or less, ensuring a balanced representation of their overall scholarly impact relative to their specialized discipline.
Verification and Methodological Rigor
Understanding that raw bibliometric data alone cannot serve as an absolute measure of scholarly output quality, Research.com employs a comprehensive manual verification process. Each scientist profile is meticulously cross-correlated against publications indexed in a wide range of trustworthy sources to validate the authenticity and relevance of the data. Although not weighting directly into the ranking position, the number of publications in prominent journals and high-impact conference proceedings is considered a valuable secondary indicator of a researcher’s contribution to the field.
The final ranking position of each scientist is determined using their D-index as calculated from up-to-date information sourced specifically from OpenAlex and CrossRef—two of the most prominent and reliable bibliometric databases available to the global research community.
