A scientist's position in this ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), an adapted metric that considers only the papers and citations relevant to the specific discipline under examination. This ensures that the ranking reflects scholarly impact uniquely within Animal Science and Veterinary sciences rather than general academic output.
Scope of Research and Qualification Criteria
Our analysis encompassed 279,971 scientist profiles identified from diverse bibliometric data sources across a broad spectrum of disciplines. Within the specific domain of Animal Science and Veterinary, 13 scientists were rigorously examined.
To qualify for inclusion in the ranking, a researcher’s D-index had to be at least 20, and the majority of their tier publications needed to be within the field of Animal Science and Veterinary. Consideration was also given to awards and notable achievements relevant to this discipline, offering a qualitative dimension to the evaluation.
The D-index threshold is dynamically set in increments of 10 according to the estimated total number of scholars in each discipline. This methodology ensures that the top 1% of leading scholars in that field are incorporated into the list. Additionally, there is a requisite proximity of 30% or less between a scientist’s overall H-index and their D-index, ensuring focus on specialized disciplinary impact.
Verification and Validation Practices
We recognize that raw bibliometric data cannot serve as an absolute tool for evaluating scholarly output. Accordingly, all scientist profiles included in the ranking underwent manual verification and were cross-correlated against publications indexed in a wide range of trustworthy sources. This meticulous validation process upholds the integrity and accuracy of the final ranking.
While not a direct factor contributing to a researcher’s position in the Research.com ranking, the number of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings serves as a valuable secondary indicator of their contribution to research within Animal Science and Veterinary.
The ranking positions are ultimately established using each researcher’s D-index as derived from OpenAlex and CrossRef—two of the most prominent, well-regarded bibliometric databases publicly available to the research community.
