The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Animal Science and Veterinary Scientists in Malaysia Ranking is founded on comprehensive bibliometric data primarily drawn from OpenAlex and CrossRef, complemented by multiple additional authoritative data sources. These databases are recognized for their extensive coverage and reliability, providing a robust foundation for an objective and credible ranking process. The bibliometric information, including citation metrics used to derive the core indicators, was meticulously collected as of January 12, 2026.
A scientist’s position within this ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index). Unlike the general H-index, the D-index exclusively considers publications and citation metrics pertinent to the examined discipline—in this case, Animal Science and Veterinary—ensuring accurate reflection of scholarly impact within the specific field.
Scope of Research and Inclusion Criteria
Our analysis encompassed a broad set of 279,971 scientist profiles identified from diverse bibliometric datasets across all scientific disciplines. Specifically within Animal Science and Veterinary, 11 leading scientists in Malaysia were examined in detail.
To qualify for inclusion in this prestigious ranking, a scientist must meet rigorous criteria:
- A minimum D-index threshold of 20, ensuring only researchers with significant discipline-specific impact are considered.
- A majority of tier publications must be rooted in Animal Science and Veterinary, confirming specialization and sustained contribution in the field.
- A scientist’s awards and notable achievements within Animal Science and Veterinary were also carefully evaluated as complementary indicators of excellence.
The D-index threshold is dynamically set in increments of 10 according to the estimated total number of scholars in each discipline. This method ensures that the ranking reliably captures the top 1% of leading experts in the subject area. Additionally, a proximity of 30% or less between the scientist’s general H-index and their discipline-specific D-index is required, which verifies focused scholarly activity rather than broad generalization.
Verification Practices and Ranking Methodology
Our team acknowledges that raw bibliometric data should never serve as an absolute measure for evaluating scholarly output. Accordingly, all scientist profiles were subject to rigorous manual verification procedures. This involved cross-referencing publications against a wide range of trustworthy sources to confirm accuracy and relevance.
While the number of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings does not directly influence the ranking position, it remains a valuable secondary signal of a researcher’s meaningful contributions within the discipline.
The final ranking order is firmly based on each researcher’s D-index, as calculated from data gathered through OpenAlex and CrossRef—two of the most prominent and widely respected bibliometric databases accessible to the research community.
