Founded in 1998, the university consists of four faculties offering undergraduate and graduate degrees in, among others, law, economics, engineering and science. It has been hosting around 6,000 students in the past few years, 2% of whom are international students. UNISANNIO boasts of a 15:8 student-teacher ratio.
Other courses being offered are degrees in statistics, the environment, biology, geology, biotechnology and business. Courses in civil engineering, computer engineering, energy engineering and electronic engineering are likewise available.
In particular, the law program requires three-degree courses, starting with Actuarial and Statistical Science at the first level, then followed by specialist courses in the same fields and a magisterial course in Jurisprudence. The faculties of engineering, sciences and business follow the same format, with students specializing in their given fields at the tertiary levels. For instance, students in biology are expected to focus on genetic science later, while business students are required to take governance in their higher years.
Meantime, the doctoral programs available in UNISANNIO include a Ph.D. in Person, Market, Institutions, Ph.D. in Information Technologies for Engineering and doctoral programs in sciences and technologies for the environment and health. UNISANNIO also provides a single-cycle masteral program in law and food technologies for confectionery production.
The University of Sannio actively pursues research in engineering, science and technology, as well as in law, management, economics and quantitative methods. It is a partner of the Euro-Mediterranean Center for Climate Change.
The university was originally a component school of the University of Salerno, which was established in 1968. Thirty years later, the school was granted its own charter, thereby, establishing the beginnings of UNISANNIO.
The years leading to its autonomy saw the school open the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences in 1990 and the Faculty of Science in 1993. Similarly, two faculties originally run by the University of Salernoーthe Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciencesーwere later turned over to UNISANNIO.
