A university's position in the ranking is determined by the sum of D-indexes (Discipline H-index) of all affiliated scholars whose main publication area is Business and Management. The D-index is a discipline-specific metric, incorporating only publications and citations relevant to the field of Business and Management. This approach ensures that the ranking accurately reflects institutions' research strengths within the discipline, discounting peripheral activities outside of the subject area.
Scope of Research
The scope of the ranking is notable for its breadth and depth. A total of 279,971 scientist profiles were identified and reviewed from an array of bibliometric data sources. Of these, 9,829 scientists actively publishing in Business and Management were thoroughly analysed. The D-index qualifying threshold for each scientist was set at 30, ensuring that only scholars with a significant contribution to the field were considered. Moreover, to maintain discipline specificity, a majority of their publications had to be in Business and Management.
Additional factors were taken into account, such as scientists’ awards and significant achievements within the discipline. The D-index threshold for recognizing top researchers followed an incremental approach—rising by 10 for disciplines with larger numbers of scholars—while guaranteeing inclusion of the top 1% of leading experts in each area. Furthermore, there had to be a proximity of 30% or less between a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index, thus confirming a scholar’s primary commitment to Business and Management research. Scientist’s accolades and contributions to their field also played a notable role in the evaluation process.
Verification and Quality Assurance
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data alone is insufficient for comprehensive evaluation, all scientist profiles were subjected to manual verification and their publication records were cross-validated against a range of authoritative scholarly sources. This rigorous process is a testament to the meticulous standards upheld in the creation of the ranking.
Although the number of papers published in top-tier journals and prestigious conference proceedings does not impact a researcher’s placement in the Research.com ranking, such outputs are acknowledged as valuable indicators of scholarly contribution to the discipline. Ranking positions are determined based on the H-index in the relevant field, employing data curated from OpenAlex and CrossRef—the leading bibliometric databases accessible to the research community.
