Data Sources and Citation Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Social Sciences and Humanities Scientists in Philippines Ranking is primarily based on comprehensive bibliometric data collected from OpenAlex and CrossRef, supplemented by multiple additional reputable data sources. The citation-based metrics used to devise the ranking were gathered on January 12, 2026, ensuring the integration of the most recent available data. A scientist’s position in this ranking is determined exclusively by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a refined variant of the traditional H-index that incorporates only papers and citation metrics relevant to the specific discipline under examination—in this case, Social Sciences and Humanities.
Scope of Research and Eligibility Criteria
Our extensive analysis included 279,971 scientist profiles sourced from a multitude of bibliometric databases across all academic disciplines. Specifically, for the field of Social Sciences and Humanities, 1,XXX scientists were examined (exact number to be inserted as per data). To qualify for inclusion in the ranking, a scientist was required to have a minimum D-index of 30 with the majority of their tier publications firmly situated within the Social Sciences and Humanities. Additionally, recognized awards and significant achievements within this domain were taken into account as supplementary factors.
The D-index threshold is adjusted in increments of 10 relative to the estimated total number of scholars within each discipline, ensuring that the top 1% of leading researchers are consistently represented. Furthermore, candidates must display a proximity of 30% or less between their general H-index and their discipline-specific D-index, confirming alignment between their overall scientific impact and their specialized contributions to Social Sciences and Humanities.
Verification Process and Data Integrity
At Research.com, we recognize that raw bibliometric data alone cannot fully capture a scholar’s research output and impact. For this reason, all scientist profiles featured in the ranking were meticulously manually verified and their publication records cross-correlated against a broad spectrum of authoritative and trustworthy sources.
While the total number of papers published in prestigious journals and conference proceedings does not influence the rank position directly, it constitutes an important secondary indicator of a scientist’s research contribution within their discipline. The ranking position itself is calculated solely on each researcher’s D-index derived from the integrated databases of OpenAlex and CrossRef, which are widely regarded as the foremost, transparent, and authoritative bibliometric data repositories accessible to the global research community.
