Data Sources and Citation Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Psychology Scientists in China Ranking is primarily based on comprehensive bibliometric data sourced from OpenAlex and CrossRef, complemented by multiple other reputable data repositories. These sources provide extensive and up-to-date information on publications and citations, forming the foundation for the citation-based metrics employed in this ranking. The bibliometric data used to calculate citation metrics were systematically collected on January 12, 2026.
A scientist’s position in the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a refined adaptation of the H-index tailored specifically to the examined discipline. The D-index exclusively incorporates papers and citation metrics relevant to the field of Psychology, ensuring an accurate and discipline-focused assessment of research impact.
Scope of Research and Ranking Criteria
The ranking analysis encompassed a broad examination of 279,971 scientist profiles identified across various bibliometric data sources, spanning all disciplines. Within this dataset, 117 scientist profiles specifically associated with Psychology were evaluated. To qualify for inclusion in the Psychology ranking, a researcher was required to have a D-index of at least 30. Additionally, the majority of their tier publications needed to be concentrated in the discipline of Psychology.
Alongside bibliometric indicators, a scientist’s notable awards and achievements within the field of Psychology were also considered to contextualize their scholarly influence. The D-index threshold for considering top researchers is determined as increments of 10, calibrated according to the estimated total number of scholars within each discipline. This method ensures that the ranking consistently includes the top 1% of leading scholars, while maintaining a proximity of 30% or less between a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index, thus prioritizing disciplinary relevance.
Verification Practices and Methodological Transparency
Understanding the limitations of raw bibliometric data, the research team undertook thorough manual verification of all scientist profiles. Each profile was meticulously cross-correlated against publications indexed in a wide array of trustworthy and authoritative sources to minimize errors and enhance accuracy. While not directly influencing a researcher’s rank, the quantity of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings serves as an important secondary indicator of a scientist’s contribution to the field.
It is important to emphasize that positions within the ranking are established strictly based on the D-index calculated from data obtained through OpenAlex and CrossRef, recognized as the most prominent and reliable bibliometric databases available to the research community globally.
