The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Microbiology Scientists in Cameroon Ranking is primarily based on comprehensive bibliometric data sourced from OpenAlex and CrossRef, along with multiple other reputable data repositories. These platforms provide a rich and diverse foundation of publication and citation metrics, crucial for an accurate evaluation of scientific impact within the discipline. The citation-based metrics used to devise this ranking were collected on January 12, 2026, ensuring the most current and relevant data is incorporated.
A key metric driving the ranking is the D-index (Discipline H-index), which differs from the traditional H-index by considering only papers and citation data strictly within the examined discipline—in this case, Microbiology. This targeted approach allows for a nuanced assessment of a scientist’s influence and productivity within their specific field of expertise.
Scope of Research and Inclusion Criteria
Our ranking process began by examining a total of 187,659 scientist profiles identified from a broad spectrum of bibliometric databases across all scientific disciplines. Within this pool, we isolated 1,163 scientist profiles specifically attributed to Microbiology. To qualify for inclusion in the ranking, researchers were required to have a D-index of at least 40, ensuring representation of those who have demonstrably contributed substantially to the field.
Additionally, the majority of a qualifying scientist’s tier publications needed to be in Microbiology, reinforcing discipline-specific expertise. Awards and recognized achievements within Microbiology serve as supplementary factors in the evaluation process.
The D-index threshold is dynamically calibrated based on the estimated total number of scholars within each discipline, set in increments of 10 to maintain rigorous standards while ensuring all top 1% leading experts are included. Furthermore, a threshold ensuring that the proximity between a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index remains at 30% or less was applied, favoring researchers consistently active in Microbiology.

Understanding that raw bibliometric data alone cannot capture the full scope of a scholar’s contributions, the Research.com team implemented meticulous manual verification procedures. Each scientist profile was carefully cross-checked against publications listed in a wide array of trustworthy academic sources to confirm accuracy and relevance. This comprehensive validation ensures the ranking reflects genuine expertise rather than solely quantitative measures.
Although not a determinant for ranking position, the volume of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings is recognized as an important secondary indicator of a scientist’s research impact within the discipline. Position in the ranking is firmly established using the validated D-index metric, leveraging data from the most authoritative and widely recognized bibliometric databases, OpenAlex and CrossRef.
