Data Sources and Bibliometric Collection
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Medicine Scientists in Israel Ranking is primarily based on comprehensive bibliometric data sourced from OpenAlex and CrossRef, along with a range of additional reputable data sources. The citation-based metrics used to generate the ranking were meticulously collected on January 12, 2026. A scientist’s position in the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a refined metric that includes only papers and citation data strictly relevant to the examined discipline, ensuring a focused and discipline-specific evaluation of research impact.
Scope of Research and Qualification Criteria
This ranking analyzed 188,153 scientist profiles identified from diverse bibliometric databases across all scientific disciplines, with specific emphasis on 59 scientists within the field of Medicine. To qualify for inclusion, a scientist’s D-index had to meet a minimum threshold of 70, and a majority of their tier publications needed to be concentrated within the domain of Medicine. Additionally, the assessment incorporated scientists’ awards and professional achievements relevant to the medical field.
The D-index threshold is set using a dynamic increment of 10, reflecting the size of the scholarly population estimated within each discipline, thereby ensuring that the ranking consistently represents the top 1% of leading experts. Moreover, the methodology requires that the difference between a scientist's general H-index and their D-index does not exceed 30%, promoting alignment between overall and discipline-specific impact.
Verification Practices and Methodology Transparency
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data alone cannot fully encapsulate the quality and impact of scientific contributions, the research team applied rigorous manual verification to all scientist profiles. Cross-correlation against publications indexed in a broad array of trustworthy academic sources was performed to confirm profile integrity and accuracy.
While the number of publications in prominent journals and conference proceedings does not directly influence the ranking position, it serves as a valuable secondary indicator of a scientist’s substantive contribution within their specialty.
The ranking position is ultimately established through the D-index metric calculated from data harvested via OpenAlex and CrossRef, acknowledged as two of the most authoritative bibliometric repositories accessible to the global research community.
