The citation-based metrics underpinning this ranking were compiled through data collected on January 12, 2026, ensuring up-to-date and robust evaluation metrics. Each scientist’s position within the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a specialized metric that considers only the publications and citations directly relevant to the examined discipline, thereby providing a precise and contextual measurement of research impact.
Scope of Research Considered
In an extensive review of 188,153 scientist profiles aggregated from diverse bibliometric sources across all scientific disciplines, a subset of 113 scientists specializing in Medicine were evaluated for this ranking. To qualify, a researcher’s D-index needed to meet or exceed a threshold of 70, with the majority of their tier publications demonstrably focused within the domain of Medicine. Additionally, notable awards and achievements within the medical field were taken into account as supplementary indicators of scholarly contribution. The D-index threshold is adaptively set, increasing in increments of 10 relative to the estimated total number of scholars in each discipline, to ensure that the top 1% of leading researchers are consistently incorporated. It is also required that the gap between a scientist’s overall H-index and their D-index remains within 30% to maintain relevance and specialization.
