The 2nd edition of Research.com ranking of the best scientists in the
arena of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering was created using data
combined from various data sources including OpenAlex and
CrossRef. The bibliometric data for estimating the citation-based metrics were
acquired on 21-12-2022. Position in the ranking is based on a
scholar’s D-index (Discipline H-index), which
takes into account only papers and citation
values for an examined discipline.

The scope of our Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering research
Research.com’s best scholars ranking is a trustworthy
lineup of leading researchers from the field of
Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, established by means of a thorough
study of 166,880 scientists discovered
from various bibliometric data sources. For the discipline of
Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, more than 5741 researchers were
analysed.
What is D-index inclusion threshold for Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering
The D-index threshold for including a scholar to be
considered is set to 30 if
the majority of of their publications are in the area of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. The
approval criteria for scientists to be
considered into the ranking of top scholars are based on the D-index, proportion
of the contributions made within the selected field of study
plus the awards and achievements of the researchers. The
D-index threshold for considering leading scholars is
set as an increment of 10 depending on the overall number of researchers
assessed for each area od study whilst
ensuring that the top 1% of leading scientists are
added into the ranking. We expect a proximity of
30% or less between a scholar’s general H-index and their D-index.
Extra verification methods
Since our main goal is to ensure that only
genuine scientists are listed in
our ranking we believe that numbers are never
meant to be a full means to quantify the
output of scholars. For that reason
we manually check every profile and cross-correlate it against publications in a
varied range of reliable sources. Even though it’s not a
element contributing to a researcher’s position in
the ranking, the amount of documents published in
major journals and conference proceedings should form a
reliable secondary signal of their contribution to research in a
selected area of science. Position in the ranking is
based on every scholar’s D-index
using metrics gathered from OpenAlex and
CrossRef, which are the most trustworthy and well-known bibliometric
databases of this kind available to the scientific community. A
thorough explanation of our research policy
can be found on our
methodology page.
Our agenda
Our goal is to inspire scientists,
entrepreneurs and politicians
worldwide to examine where leading experts are heading
and to give a way for the whole research community to
get to know who the leading experts in specific
fields of research, in various countries, or even within research
institutions are.
