The 12th edition of the Research.com Best Computer Science Scientists in India Ranking draws primarily from comprehensive bibliometric data collected on January 12, 2026. The core data sources used include OpenAlex and CrossRef, two of the most prominent, widely recognized bibliometric databases available to the research community. Additionally, data from multiple other reliable bibliometric repositories were incorporated to ensure breadth and accuracy.
A central metric underpinning the ranking is the D-index (Discipline H-index), which measures a researcher’s citation impact within a specific discipline. Unlike a general H-index, the D-index only includes publications and citations relevant to the examined discipline—in this case, Computer Science—allowing for a more precise reflection of a scientist’s contributions in their field.
Scope of Research and Inclusion Criteria
This edition evaluated a total of 279,971 scientist profiles identified across a diversity of bibliometric data sources encompassing all academic disciplines. Among these, 166 scientists specializing in Computer Science were rigorously examined to determine their eligibility for inclusion.
To qualify for the ranking, a researcher had to meet the following criteria:
- A minimum D-index of 30, ensuring recognized scholarly impact within Computer Science.
- A majority of their tier publications had to be explicitly categorized within the Computer Science discipline.
- Demonstrated awards and achievements pertinent to Computer Science were also taken into account as supporting evidence of field-specific excellence.
The threshold D-index for inclusion is adaptively set in increments of 10 relative to the total estimated number of scientists in each discipline. This calibration guarantees that approximately the top 1% of leading scholars are incorporated within each area of study. Furthermore, to maintain relevance and field specificity, the D-index must remain within 30% or less of the researcher’s overall general H-index.
Verification and Methodological Rigor
The Research.com team acknowledges that raw bibliometric data alone cannot be the sole measure of a scholar’s impact or output. Consequently, all scientist profiles were subjected to manual verification and were cross-correlated against publications listed in a broad array of trustworthy, authoritative sources to ensure accuracy and to mitigate errors commonly associated with automated data aggregation.
While the primary ranking metric is the D-index, the quantity of papers published in prestigious journals and key conference proceedings is regarded as a valuable secondary indicator of a researcher’s standing and sustained contribution to their specialized area.
The final position of each scientist in the ranking is determined strictly by their D-index derived from OpenAlex and CrossRef data. These databases are acknowledged for their high standards and reliability in bibliometric data collection.
