A scientist’s position in the ranking is determined by their Discipline H-index, commonly referred to as the D-index. This metric is carefully calculated using only those publications and citation metrics that fall within the examined discipline — in this case, Business and Management. By focusing on discipline-specific citation impact, the ranking reflects a researcher’s influence and contribution within their particular field of expertise.
Scope of Research and Eligibility Criteria
For the construction of this ranking, Research.com examined a comprehensive set of 279,971 scientist profiles extracted from a variety of bibliometric data sources across all scientific disciplines. Within this extensive dataset, 1,183 scientists specializing specifically in Business and Management were identified and analyzed.
To qualify for inclusion in the ranking, scientists were required to have a D-index of at least 30, ensuring a high level of scholarly impact within Business and Management. Additionally, a majority of the researcher’s tier publications—those most influential and highly cited—had to be within the Business and Management domain. Awards and notable achievements relevant to the field were also carefully considered as supplementary factors.
The D-index threshold is dynamically set with increments of 10 relative to the estimated total number of scholars in each discipline, a method that guarantees representation of the top 1% of leading researchers. Furthermore, to maintain relevance to the targeted discipline, the difference between a scientist’s general H-index and their discipline-specific D-index is maintained at 30% or less.
Verification and Methodological Rigor
Recognizing the limitations of raw bibliometric data as a sole evaluative measure, the Research.com team has implemented thorough manual verification procedures. Each scientist’s profile was cross-correlated against publications indexed in a broad array of trustworthy and authoritative sources, enhancing accuracy and reducing errors.
While metrics such as the number of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings do not directly influence the final ranking position, they serve as valuable supplementary indicators of a researcher’s scholarly contributions within Business and Management.
The position in the ranking is ultimately established based on each researcher’s D-index, calculated using data from OpenAlex and CrossRef, the most prominent and widely recognized bibliometric databases accessible to the research community.
