Bibliometric data used to devise the citation-based metrics for this ranking were collected on January 12, 2026. A scientist’s position in the ranking is determined by their Discipline H-index (D-index), a metric which exclusively accounts for papers and citation metrics within the examined discipline—in this case, Business and Management. The D-index thus reflects a researcher’s impact and productivity specifically within their area of specialized contribution rather than across all fields indiscriminately.
Scope and Selection Criteria
The evaluation considered 279,971 scientist profiles identified from a diverse array of bibliometric data sources spanning all disciplines, among which 1,000 scientists were recognized in the Business and Management domain specifically. To qualify for inclusion in the ranking, a scientist was required to meet a minimum D-index threshold of 30 and demonstrate that a majority of their tier publications are in Business and Management.
In addition to bibliometric thresholds, scientists’ awards and other notable achievements within the Business and Management field were also factored into the evaluation process. The D-index threshold is dynamically set in increments of 10 relative to the total estimated number of scholars within each discipline, ensuring that the top 1% of leading experts per field are represented in the ranking.
Moreover, to maintain alignment between a researcher’s overall impact and their disciplinary specialization, a proximity criterion was enforced whereby the difference between a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index does not exceed 30%. This ensures that selected researchers are truly prominent within the discipline rather than broadly across unrelated fields.
Verification and Quality Assurance
The research team behind the ranking recognizes that raw bibliometric data, while invaluable, cannot serve as an absolute measure of a scholar’s contribution. Therefore, every scientist profile underwent rigorous manual verification and was cross-correlated against publications and records from a wide range of trusted sources to ensure accuracy and authenticity.
While the number of papers published in leading journals and conference proceedings was not directly factored into the rank ordering, it provides an important secondary signal of a scientist’s influence and contribution to the scientific discourse within Business and Management.
The ranking’s position assignments are firmly grounded in the D-index values computed from data obtained principally from OpenAlex and CrossRef.
