All bibliometric data utilized to devise the citation-based metrics were collected on January 12, 2026. The ranking methodology centers on the D-index (Discipline H-index), a refined metric that considers only the papers and citation counts within the examined discipline—Business and Management in this case—thereby offering a focused evaluation of research impact specific to the field.
Scope of Research and Qualification Criteria
To create a dependable and representative ranking, we examined 279,971 scientist profiles drawn from a variety of global bibliometric data sources across all disciplines. Specifically, within the Business and Management domain, 1,192 scientists were analyzed.
Qualification for inclusion in the ranking required candidates to have a D-index of at least 30, ensuring a level of sustained scholarly impact. Furthermore, the majority of each qualifying scientist’s tier publications needed to fall within the Business and Management area. Awards and other notable achievements in the discipline were also considered, adding an evaluative dimension beyond pure citation metrics.
The D-index threshold is dynamically adjusted in increments of 10 relative to the estimated total number of scholars per discipline. This approach guarantees that the top 1% of leading researchers are captured within each specialized list. An additional quality control measure requires that the proximity between a scientist’s overall H-index and their D-index remain within 30%, ensuring consistency and disciplinary focus in the evaluated impact.
Verification and Validation Procedures
We recognize that raw bibliometric data cannot serve as an absolute measure of a scientist’s research quality or impact. Accordingly, all profiles were manually verified and cross-correlated against publications indexed in a broad range of trustworthy sources to confirm accuracy and attribution.
While not a direct factor influencing rank placement, the number of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings was also assessed as a valuable secondary indicator of a scientist’s contribution within Business and Management.
The final ranking positions reflect the D-index values calculated using OpenAlex and CrossRef data—the two most prominent and widely adopted bibliometric databases accessible to the research community.
