A researcher’s position in the ranking is determined exclusively by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a specialized metric that quantifies a scientist’s impact within a selected discipline by including only those papers and citation counts relevant to that field. This approach ensures that the ranking reflects domain-specific research excellence rather than a general citation footprint.
Scope of Research and Selection Criteria
The ranking project examined profiles from a broad pool of 279,971 scientists drawn from diverse bibliometric sources encompassing all academic disciplines. Within this comprehensive dataset, 1,427 scientists specializing in Business and Management were specifically analyzed for inclusion in this ranking.
To qualify for the Business and Management ranking, a scientist must meet several stringent criteria:
- A minimum D-index of 30 within the discipline of Business and Management.
- The majority of their tier publications must fall within the domain of Business and Management, ensuring disciplinary integrity.
- Their awards and recognitions pertinent to Business and Management are also taken into consideration to supplement the bibliometric data.
To maintain a fair and proportional representation relative to the size of the research community in each discipline, the D-index threshold for top researchers is incremented by 10 points in accordance with the estimated total scholar population within the field. This method guarantees the inclusion of the top 1% most influential experts in Business and Management.
Additionally, for consistency and discipline specificity, only those scientists whose general H-index and D-index differ by no more than 30% are considered, thereby confirming a strong alignment between their overall scholarly impact and their disciplinary focus.
Verification and Validation Processes
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data cannot be the sole arbiter of scholarly excellence, the Research.com team undertook extensive manual verification of all scientist profiles included in the ranking. Each profile was carefully cross-correlated against an array of trustworthy publication and citation sources to validate the accuracy of authorship, publication venues, and citation counts.
While the number of papers published in high-impact journals and major conference proceedings is not a direct factor in determining ranking position, this metric is viewed as a valuable secondary indicator of a scientist’s contribution and stature within Business and Management.
The final ranking positions were derived using each researcher’s D-index based on the comprehensive bibliometric information gathered from OpenAlex and CrossRef, ensuring robustness and transparency in our methodology.
