A scientist’s position in the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a metric that exclusively measures citation impact within a specific examined discipline. Unlike the traditional H-index, the D-index considers only those papers and citations that pertain directly to the researcher’s activity in Business and Management, ensuring a precise and relevant evaluation of their scholarly contributions in this field.
Scope of Research and Qualification Criteria
To establish the scope of this ranking, a total of 279,971 scientist profiles were initially identified across a wide array of bibliometric data sources encompassing all scientific disciplines. From this pool, 1,134 scientists specializing in Business and Management were specifically examined for inclusion.
In order to qualify for the ranking, candidates were required to demonstrate a D-index of at least 30, ensuring a threshold level of significant disciplinary impact. Additionally, a majority of the candidate’s tier publications had to fall squarely within the domain of Business and Management. Consideration was also given to each scientist’s awards and achievements relevant to this discipline.
The D-index threshold for identifying top researchers is calibrated in increments of 10, tailored according to the estimated total number of scholars in each discipline. This adaptive threshold guarantees that approximately the top 1% of leading scholars are incorporated into the list. Furthermore, to maintain disciplinary consistency and relevance, the D-index is required to have a proximity of 30% or less relative to the scientist’s overall H-index.
Verification and Methodological Rigor
Recognizing the limitations inherent in raw bibliometric data as an absolute measure of scholarly output, the Research.com team undertook extensive manual verification and cross-correlation of all scientist profiles. This process involved validating publication records against a wide range of trustworthy sources to confirm accuracy and integrity.
While the number of papers published in leading journals and conference proceedings is not an explicit factor influencing a researcher’s rank, it serves as an important secondary indicator of their contribution to the field of Business and Management. The final ranking position is rigorously established using the D-index calculated from data sourced mainly from OpenAlex and CrossRef, both of which are widely respected bibliometric databases.
