A scientist's position within the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a rigorous metric that specifically considers only those papers and citation data relevant to the examined discipline. This approach enables a focused and fair evaluation of a researcher's influence within Biology and Biochemistry, rather than relying on general or cross-disciplinary indices.
Scope of Research and Eligibility Criteria
This ranking carefully analyzed 188,046 scientist profiles curated from a variety of bibliometric data sources spanning all disciplines, from which 25 scientists specializing in Biology and Biochemistry in Argentina were specifically identified for inclusion. To qualify for placement, researchers must have attained a minimum D-index of 40, and a majority of their high-impact publications must be concentrated in the fields of Biology and Biochemistry.
In addition to bibliometric measures, scientists’ awards and other significant achievements in these fields were factored into the evaluation to provide a holistic view of their scholarly contributions. The D-index threshold is calibrated with increments of 10 relative to the estimated size of the scholar pool for each discipline, guaranteeing that the top 1% of leading experts are represented.
Furthermore, candidates demonstrate a close alignment between their general H-index and their D-index, with a requisite proximity of 30% or less, underscoring a consistent level of discipline-specific excellence.
Verification and Validation Practices
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data alone cannot wholly capture the quality and impact of scholarly work, all scientist profiles underwent meticulous manual verification. This process involved cross-correlation against a broad spectrum of reputable publication records and trusted data sources, thereby ensuring the authenticity and accuracy of each profile.
While the ranking itself is based solely on the D-index gleaned from OpenAlex and CrossRef—two of the most prominent and reliable bibliometric databases accessible to the global research community—the quantity of publications in leading journals and prestigious conference proceedings serves as an important supplementary indicator of researchers’ impact in Biology and Biochemistry.
