Data Sources and Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Animal Science and Veterinary Scientists in Serbia Ranking is derived from a rigorous analysis of comprehensive bibliometric data primarily sourced from OpenAlex and CrossRef, complemented by multiple other reputable data repositories. The bibliometric datasets used to calculate citation-based metrics were collected on January 12, 2026. This ensures that the ranking reflects the most up-to-date and accurate scholarly impact assessments available.
A researcher’s position within this ranking is determined by their Discipline H-index, or D-index. The D-index specifically quantifies academic influence within the Animal Science and Veterinary discipline by incorporating only those publications and citation data that fall within this specialized subject area. This discipline-focused metric provides a precise measure of each scientist’s active contribution and influence in their field.
Scope of Research and Eligibility Criteria
Our analysis encompassed 279,971 scientist profiles identified from a multitude of bibliometric sources across all scientific disciplines, with a specialized focus on 1,xxx scientists from Animal Science and Veterinary. To be considered for the ranking, researchers were required to meet a minimum D-index threshold of 20. Additionally, a majority of tier publications contributing to their D-index had to originate from the Animal Science and Veterinary domain to ensure relevance and disciplinary specificity.
Beyond citation metrics, scientists’ awards and notable achievements within the Animal Science and Veterinary field were also evaluated to provide a well-rounded perspective on scholarly standing. The D-index threshold is methodically set with increments of 10, adjusted according to the total estimated pool of scholars within each discipline, ensuring that the ranking consistently comprises the top 1% of leading experts. Furthermore, a proximity criterion is applied whereby there exists no more than a 30% difference between a researcher’s general H-index and their discipline-specific D-index, safeguarding that the ranking reflects both overall impact and specialized excellence.
Verification and Methodological Rigor
Recognizing the inherent limitations of raw bibliometric data, our research team conducted meticulous manual verification of all scientist profiles. This process included cross-referencing publications against a broad spectrum of authoritative scholarly sources to confirm accuracy and relevance. We emphasize that while the volume of publications in prestigious journals and conference proceedings is not directly factored into ranking positions, it serves as a valuable secondary indicator of a researcher’s contribution and prominence within the Animal Science and Veterinary arena.
The ranking order is ultimately established based on each researcher’s D-index computed from data sourced through OpenAlex and CrossRef, two of the most prominent and trusted bibliometric databases available to the scientific community.
