Data Sources and Methodology
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Animal Science and Veterinary Scientists in Oman Ranking is primarily derived from comprehensive bibliometric data collected from OpenAlex and CrossRef, alongside multiple additional trusted data sources. The bibliometric datasets used to calculate the citation-based metrics underpinning the ranking were collected on January 12, 2026. The ranking of each scientist is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a refined metric that exclusively accounts for publications and citation metrics within the specific discipline under examination, thereby ensuring discipline-specific relevance and accuracy.
Scope of Research and Qualification Criteria
Our study reviewed 279,971 scientist profiles identified across a spectrum of bibliometric databases encompassing all disciplines globally. Specifically, 2 scientists within the Animal Science and Veterinary discipline were evaluated as a focused cohort. To qualify for inclusion in this ranking, a scientist’s D-index had to be at least 20. Furthermore, a majority of their tier publications needed to be situated within Animal Science and Veterinary research areas. Consideration was also given to notable awards and achievements in the field to better reflect scholarly impact.
The D-index thresholds are strategically set in increments of 10 relative to the estimated total number of scholars in each discipline. This methodology ensures that the ranking encompasses approximately the top 1% of the leading experts within each field. Additionally, we imposed a rigorous proximity requirement: the variation between a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index must not exceed 30%, ensuring that the selected researchers' influence is both general and discipline-focused.
Verification and Data Integrity
At Research.com, we recognize that raw bibliometric data alone cannot fully encapsulate the qualitative output of academic scholars. Therefore, all scientist profiles incorporated into the ranking were meticulously manually verified. This verification process included cross-referencing their publication records with information from a wide array of reliable sources to confirm accuracy and authenticity.
While the number of papers published in high-impact journals and conference proceedings does not directly influence a researcher’s position in our ranking, we acknowledge it as a valuable secondary indicator of a scientist’s contribution to their field. The final position in the ranking is firmly established through the D-index, derived from data aggregated via OpenAlex and CrossRef—two of the most prominent and respected bibliometric repositories available to the scientific community.
