Bibliometric data underpinning the citation metrics, such as publication counts and citation frequency, were collected on January 12, 2026. A scientist's position in the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a refined metric that exclusively measures research output and impact within the examined discipline, thereby ensuring discipline-specific relevance in evaluating scholarly contributions.
Scope of Research and Inclusion Criteria
The ranking assessment comprehensively examined 279,971 scientist profiles sourced from a variety of bibliometric repositories across all academic disciplines. Within the scope of Animal Science and Veterinary fields specifically, data for 1 scientist were evaluated.
Eligibility for inclusion in this ranking required a minimum D-index of 20, coupled with the stipulation that the majority of a scientist’s tier publications must reside within the Animal Science and Veterinary domain. Additionally, consideration was given to awards and notable achievements in the field to holistically appreciate research excellence.
The D-index threshold for selecting top researchers is dynamically set in increments of 10, tailored to the estimated size of the scholarly community within each discipline. This approach strategically ensures representation of the top 1% of leading experts. Furthermore, to confirm disciplinary specialization, only scientists whose general H-index and D-index differ by 30% or less are considered, thereby maintaining methodological rigor in disciplinary focus.
Verification and Methodological Rigor
The team behind this ranking acknowledges that raw bibliometric data alone cannot fully capture the scholarly impact and output of researchers. Consequently, all scientist profiles underwent meticulous manual verification and cross-correlation against publications indexed in an extensive range of trustworthy sources to validate authenticity and accuracy.
While the number of publications in leading journals and conference proceedings is not directly factored into the algorithmic positioning, it serves as an important secondary indicator reflecting a scientist’s scholarly contributions within Animal Science and Veterinary research.
Positions in the ranking are ultimately established based on each researcher’s D-index, derived from data aggregated from OpenAlex and CrossRef—two of the most prominent and widely respected bibliometric databases accessible to the global research community.
