Data Sources and Citation Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Animal Science and Veterinary Scientists in Egypt Ranking is founded on an extensive compilation of bibliometric data drawn primarily from OpenAlex and CrossRef, complemented by multiple additional reputable data sources. These databases are recognized globally for their comprehensive coverage and authoritative citation indexing within the research community. The bibliometric data used to calculate the citation-based metrics underpinning the ranking were collected on January 12, 2026. Each scientist’s position in the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a refined metric which exclusively measures papers and citations pertinent to the Animal Science and Veterinary discipline, thereby providing an accurate representation of their scholarly impact within this specific field.
Scope of Research and Eligibility Criteria
The ranking process commenced with the examination of 279,971 scientist profiles identified from a spectrum of bibliometric data sources covering all scientific disciplines. Within this extensive dataset, 12 scientists specializing specifically in Animal Science and Veterinary were identified for detailed analysis. To qualify for inclusion in the ranking, a scientist must hold a D-index of at least 20, with a majority of their tier publications firmly situated in the Animal Science and Veterinary domain. In addition to bibliometric indicators, awards and achievements within the field were considered to provide a holistic appraisal of a researcher’s contribution.
The threshold for the D-index varies in increments of 10, adjusted according to the estimated total number of scholars within each discipline. This ensures that only the top 1% of leading scholars are included in the ranking. Furthermore, to maintain disciplinary consistency, only those scientists whose general H-index is within 30% or less proximity to their D-index are considered, ensuring that their research impact is concentrated within Animal Science and Veterinary studies.
Verification and Validation Process
Recognizing that raw bibliometric data cannot serve as an absolute measure of scholarly output, the Research.com team implemented rigorous manual verification practices. All scientist profiles considered for the ranking were meticulously reviewed and cross-referenced against publications indexed in a wide array of trusted sources to validate accuracy and relevance. Although not a direct component influencing the ranking position, the volume of publications in prominent journals and significant conference proceedings was also evaluated as a supplementary indicator of a scientist’s contribution to their discipline.
The ranking positions are formally established using each researcher’s D-index based on the data aggregated from OpenAlex and CrossRef, the foremost and most reliable bibliometric databases accessible to the global research community.
