What topics the last edition of the journal is best known for?

  • Internal medicine
  • Disease
  • Diabetes mellitus

The previous edition focused in particular on these issues:

The journal tackles a plethora of topics, such as Internal medicine, Surgery, Radiology, Cardiology and Pediatrics. Internal medicine and Gastroenterology are closely related fields of research discussed in Case Reports. The journal aims to address concerns in Surgery, specifically in the areas of Complication, Orthopedic surgery and Presentation (obstetrics).

Radiology research is concerned with Biopsy in particular. The majority of Cardiology studies presented zero in on Myocardial infarction.

The most cited articles from the last journal are:

  • COVID-19 triggering mucormycosis in a susceptible patient: a new phenomenon in the developing world? (42 citations)

  • Guillain-Barre syndrome following the first dose of the chimpanzee adenovirus-vectored COVID-19 vaccine, ChAdOx1. (19 citations)

Papers citation over time

A key indicator for each journal is its effectiveness in reaching other researchers with the papers published at that venue.

The chart below presents the interquartile range (first quartile 25%, median 50% and third quartile 75%) of the number of citations of articles over time.

The top authors publishing in Case Reports (based on the number of publications) are:

  • Satyanarayan Sankhwar (55 papers) published 1 paper at the last edition,
  • John R. Crawford (53 papers) published 13 papers at the last edition, 7 more than at the previous edition,
  • Rajesh Verma (50 papers) absent at the last edition,
  • Navin Agrawal (50 papers) absent at the last edition,
  • Rakesh Biswas (48 papers) absent at the last edition.

The overall trend for top authors publishing in this journal is outlined below. The chart shows the number of publications at each edition of the journal for top authors.

Only papers with recognized affiliations are considered

The top affiliations publishing in Case Reports (based on the number of publications) are:

  • All India Institute of Medical Sciences (766 papers) published 177 papers at the last edition, 61 more than at the previous edition,
  • King George's Medical University (422 papers) published 16 papers at the last edition, 9 more than at the previous edition,
  • Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (378 papers) published 63 papers at the last edition, 18 more than at the previous edition,

  • Kasturba Medical College, Manipal (279 papers) published 19 papers at the last edition, 14 more than at the previous edition.

The overall trend for top affiliations publishing in this journal is outlined below. The chart shows the number of publications at each edition of the journal for top affiliations.

Publication chance based on affiliation

The publication chance index shows the ratio of articles published by the best research institutions in the journal edition to all articles published within that journal. The best research institutions were selected based on the largest number of articles published during all editions of the journal.

The chart below presents the percentage ratio of articles from top institutions (based on their ranking of total papers).Top affiliations were grouped by their rank into the following tiers: top 1-10, top 11-20, top 21-50, and top 51+. Only articles with a recognized affiliation are considered.

During the most recent 2021 edition, 20.83% of publications had an unrecognized affiliation. Out of the publications with recognized affiliations, 16.07% were posted by at least one author from the top 10 institutions publishing in the journal. Another 6.74% included authors affiliated with research institutions from the top 11-20 affiliations. Institutions from the 21-50 range included 10.79% of all publications and 66.40% were from other institutions.

Returning Authors Index

A very common phenomenon observed among researchers publishing scientific articles is the intentional selection of journals they have already attended in the past. In particular, it is worth analyzing the case when the authors participate in the same journal from year to year.

The Returning Authors Index presented below illustrates the ratio of authors who participated in both a given as well as the previous edition of the journal in relation to all participants in a given year.

Returning Institution Index

The graph below shows the Returning Institution Index, illustrating the ratio of institutions that participated in both a given and the previous edition of the conference in relation to all affiliations present in a given year.

The experience to innovation index

Our experience to innovation index was created to show a cross-section of the experience level of authors publishing in a journal. The index includes the authors publishing at the last edition of a journal, grouped by total number of publications throughout their academic career (P) and the total number of citations of these publications ever received (C).

The group intervals were selected empirically to best show the diversity of the authors' experiences, their labels were selected as a convenience, not as judgment. The authors were divided into the following groups:

  • Novice - P < 5 or C < 25 (the number of publications less than 5 or the number of citations less than 25),
  • Competent - P < 10 or C < 100 (the number of publications less than 10 or the number of citations less than 100),
  • Experienced - P < 25 or C < 625 (the number of publications less than 25 or the number of citations less than 625),
  • Master - P < 50 or C < 2500 (the number of publications less than 50 or the number of citations less than 2500),
  • Star - P ≥ 50 and C ≥ 2500 (both the number of publications greater than 50 and the number of citations greater than 2500).

The chart below illustrates experience levels of first authors in cases of publications with multiple authors.

Exploring Connections to Educational Institutions

Another aspect to consider when analyzing the depth of research and academic papers provided in the journal is the connection of the authors to esteemed educational institutions. Such connections can add weight to the discussions presented in the journal and provide avenues for direct educational influence and knowledge transfer. For instance, in the field of medicine, specifically nursing, having contributors who are also active educators or professionals from recognized nursing schools can greatly enhance the journal's value. This allows the publication to offer perspectives that are not only theoretically sound, but are also grounded in actual practice and experience. An interesting parallel to draw would be evaluations of nursing school programs themselves, such as a comprehensive analysis of the best nursing schools in New Mexico. A study like this offers a direct look at the institutions that shape many of the professionals conducting significant research in the field of medical sciences, much like many of the contributors to our journal. These aspects can provide insightful context when understanding the backgrounds of the authors and their unique perspectives. However, it's worth mentioning that these insights are merely complementary to the objective assessments of the journal's research quality. Ultimately, the scholarly value of the publications comes from their scientific rigor, innovative input, and contribution to the field. By recognizing these connections, readers are better informed about the authorship ecosystem and can understand the potential influences that shape the discussions at play.

Related Online Degrees & Career Pathways

For those interested in expanding their healthcare knowledge and career opportunities after studying Medicine in the USA, several online degree options are worth considering. For individuals without a nursing background aiming to enter advanced nursing roles, exploring direct entry MSN programs for non-nurses online can be a strategic choice. These programs bridge the gap efficiently for non-nurses to pursue master's-level nursing qualifications.

Registered Nurses looking to advance their education often compare pathways such as capella university vs wgu rn to bsn programs. Understanding the differences in curriculum, flexibility, and cost helps prospective students select the best fit for their career goals.

Additionally, pursuing affordable bsn to msn online programs is an excellent way for nurses to deepen their expertise and qualify for leadership or specialized roles without interrupting their careers.

For those seeking flexibility, some top rn to bsn without clinicals programs offer online coursework that reduces the need for traditional clinical hours, fitting well with busy schedules and remote learners.
