Each institution's ranking position is determined by the aggregate of D-indexes (Discipline H-index) of all affiliated scholars whose main area of publication is Social Sciences and Humanities. The D-index encompasses exclusively those publications and citation metrics attributed to the selected discipline, safeguarding the specificity and reliability of the assessment for the field in question.
Scope of Research and Criteria for Inclusion
The ranking is based on an extensive evaluation of 279,971 scientist profiles obtained from a variety of leading bibliometric data sources. Of these, 17,050 scientists specializing in Social Sciences and Humanities were thoroughly analyzed. A qualifying D-index threshold of 30 was established for inclusion, ensuring that only those researchers with a substantial and influential body of work in Social Sciences and Humanities were considered. Additionally, the majority of the qualifying scholars' publications needed to be within the designated discipline.
Scientist awards and achievement records in Social Sciences and Humanities were also integral to the evaluation process. To further refine the distinction of top researchers, the D-index threshold was dynamically set in increments of 10, calibrated to the total number of scholars per discipline. This method ensures that the top 1% of leading scholars are consistently represented in the list. Moreover, there had to be a proximity of 30% or less between a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index, ensuring the researcher’s focus on their primary discipline. As a result, the methodology effectively balances breadth and depth of expertise among the selected scholars.
Verification Practices and Data Quality Assurance
The Research.com team recognizes the inherent limitations and potential biases present in raw bibliometric data. Accordingly, every scientist profile underwent manual verification and was cross-checked against a broad range of reputable publication sources. While the number of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings does not directly affect a researcher's position in the Research.com ranking, it is considered a valuable secondary signal of a scientist’s contribution to a specific research domain.
All ranking placements are established according to the H-index data derived from OpenAlex and CrossRef—both esteemed as the most reliable and recognized bibliometric databases by the international research community.
