Data Sources and Ranking Metrics
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Social Sciences and Humanities Scientists in Estonia Ranking is primarily based on bibliometric data derived from OpenAlex and CrossRef, complemented by multiple other reputable data sources. The comprehensive citation-based metrics utilized to establish the ranking were collected on January 12, 2026. A scientist's ranking position is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), which specifically reflects citation impact and publications within the examined discipline, ensuring a focused assessment of domain-specific scholarly performance.
Scope of Research and Eligibility Criteria
This ranking encompasses an extensive review of 279,971 scientist profiles identified across a variety of bibliometric data sources spanning all academic disciplines. Within the domain of Social Sciences and Humanities, four hundred seventy-seven researchers were carefully examined. To qualify for inclusion in the ranking, a scientist was required to have a D-index of at least 30 and the majority of their tier publications had to be dedicated to Social Sciences and Humanities. Additionally, recognition through awards and notable achievements in this field was taken into account.
The threshold D-index for considering top researchers is strategically set in increments of 10, calibrated to the estimated total number of scholars in each discipline. This approach guarantees representation of the top 1% of leading experts within the field. Furthermore, to ensure coherence between a researcher’s overall productivity and discipline-specific impact, the difference between a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index was maintained at 30% or less.
Verification Practices and Data Integrity
Understanding the limitations of raw bibliometric data, the Research.com team implemented a rigorous manual verification process for each scientist profile. This involved cross-referencing publication records against a wide range of trustworthy sources to confirm accuracy and authenticity. Although not directly influencing the ranking position, the volume of papers published in prominent journals and conference proceedings serves as a valuable secondary indicator of a researcher’s contribution to the Social Sciences and Humanities.
The official ranking order is established through the application of each researcher’s D-index, calculated using data sourced from OpenAlex and CrossRef—two of the most prominent and widely recognized bibliometric databases in the academic community.
