Data Sources and Bibliometric Foundations
The 5th edition of the Research.com Best Psychology Scientists in Bulgaria Ranking is grounded on comprehensive and authoritative bibliometric data. Primarily, the data were harvested from OpenAlex and CrossRef, two of the most prominent and well-regarded bibliometric databases accessible to the research community. Supplementing these, multiple other validated data sources were incorporated to enhance data completeness and accuracy.
The bibliometric data underpinning the citation-based metrics for this ranking were collected on 2026-01-12, ensuring that the information reflects recent and relevant scholarly output. Each scientist’s position in the ranking is determined by their D-index (Discipline H-index), a metric calculated exclusively from publication and citation data within the examined discipline of Psychology. This targeted approach ensures that discipline-specific impact and productivity are accurately captured.
Scope of Research and Ranking Eligibility
Our examination included 279,971 scientist profiles derived from a diverse array of bibliometric data sources spanning all academic disciplines. Within the domain of Psychology, specifically, we identified and evaluated data for 2,000 scientists. To qualify for inclusion in this ranking, candidates were required to meet the following criteria:
- A minimum D-index of 30, demonstrating a substantial research impact within Psychology.
- A majority of their most influential publications classified within Psychology, ensuring disciplinary relevance.
- Recognition of awards and notable achievements within the Psychology community, augmenting the quantitative measures.
The threshold for the D-index is calibrated in increments of 10, adjusted according to the estimated population of scholars in each discipline. This methodology guarantees the inclusion of the top 1% of leading scholars in Psychology. Furthermore, to maintain a consistent disciplinary focus, the difference between a scientist’s general H-index and their D-index must not exceed 30%, ensuring their primary contributions are rooted in Psychology.
Verification and Methodological Rigor
Understanding that raw bibliometric data alone cannot serve as an absolute measure of scholarly output, our researchers conducted meticulous manual verification of all candidate profiles. This process involved cross-referencing scholarly publications across a broad spectrum of reputable and trustworthy sources to validate the authenticity and relevance of each profile.
While the quantity of papers published in prominent journals and high-impact conference proceedings is not a direct factor determining a researcher’s rank, it remains a crucial secondary indicator of scholarly contribution and influence within the field.
The ranking position is ultimately established using the verified D-index derived from OpenAlex and CrossRef, representing the most comprehensive and accessible data repositories for bibliometric analysis. For detailed insights into the full methodology, we invite you to visit our methodology page.
